Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Program at a Glance

  • Admission & Application

  • Tuition & Financing

    • How long is the M.Sc. Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and when does it start?

The program lasts 24 months (four semesters including the master's thesis) and runs on a rotating schedule: it starts in September in Hyderabad (JNTU, India) or Monastir (University of Monastir, Tunisia) and in March at the University of Kassel (Germany). Two intakes per year.

    • What degree will I receive?

You graduate with a double degree: a Master of Science (M.Sc.) from the University of Kassel plus a second M.Sc. from JNTU Hyderabad or the University of Monastir. The two certificates are valid in conjunction and are issued separately.

    • Is REMENA full-time? Can I work alongside the program?

Yes, it is a full-time program. Classes run Monday–Friday, roughly 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with no lectures on weekends. Side employment is not feasible during the study phase.

    • What makes REMENA different from other renewable energy master's programs?

It is one of the few international double-degree master's programs jointly offered by three partner universities across three continents, combining engineering, management and practical application in renewable energy and energy efficiency, with a strong focus on international cooperation.

    • Who can apply to the REMENA master's program?

Applicants need a bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences or engineering with a minimum average grade of 2.5 (German "good"), or a degree in law, business/economics or social sciences with at least 10 ECTS credits in mathematics, natural or engineering sciences. Equivalent international degrees are accepted.

    • What is the minimum GPA required?

A grade of 2.5 or better (German grading system) according to the Bavarian Formula (BayFo). Find a convenient conversion fomular here.

    • What English level is required?

B2 (CEFR). Proof is waived if English is your first language or your bachelor's studies were conducted entirely in English.

    • Do I need work experience in the renewable energy sector?

There is no fixed minimum, but your eligibility is assessed by the University of Kassel's admission board based on the quality, duration and relevance of your experience to the renewable energy sector. If in doubt, apply — the board decides.

    • When is the application deadline and how do I apply?

July 15 for the September intake (start in Hyderabad/Monastir) and January 15 for the March intake (start in Kassel). All documents must reach the University of Kassel by the deadline — certified copies only, no originals. Applicants are notified by the University's central registration office (Studienservice).

    • How much does the REMENA master's program cost?

Tuition is 10,000 EUR, payable in four installments of 2,500 EUR per semester. Service fees: approx. 390 EUR per semester in Kassel, approx. 150–200 EUR per year in Hyderabad or Monastir.

    • Are scholarships or grants available?

Yes. International students can apply for funding, including DAAD grants. If you are awarded a DAAD grant, the DAAD will contact you directly by email — no need to inquire about status.

    • Do my documents need to be translated or certified?

Documents in English or German need no translation for admission, but official translations are required for enrollment. Certified copies are mandatory — the university and uni-assist cannot return originals.
