Frequently Asked Questions
What renewable energy programs does UNIKIMS offer in English?
UNIKIMS offers one Master of Science in Wind Energy Systems (fully online), one Master of Science in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (blended), one Diploma of Basic Studies, and eight Diplomas of Advanced Studies – all taught in English.
Can I start with a diploma and later upgrade to a Master's degree?
Yes. Credits earned in the DAS programs can be recognized toward the M.Sc. Wind Energy Systems. Many students begin with a single DAS and progress to the full Master's.
Is the M.Sc. Wind Energy Systems fully online?
Yes. The WES.online program is 100% online with no on-site attendance required. Lectures, assignments, and exams are all conducted online.
Is the REMENA Master's program also fully online?
No. The M.Sc. Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (REMENA) includes on-site phases and is not fully online. It is a double-degree program with partner universities in Tunisia and India.
What is the difference between a DBS and a DAS?
The Diploma of Basic Studies (DBS) provides a broad foundation across multiple renewable energy technologies on a Bachelor level. A Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) offers specialized, in-depth knowledge in one specific aspect of wind energy systems on a Master level.
Which DAS should I take first?
The DAS "Scientifically Oriented Fundamentals of Wind Energy Systems" (SOF) is a good start for your personal specialization and serves as the gateway to further study.
Do I need to be an engineer to apply?
It depends on the program you are planning to take. The Master of Science Wind Energy System requires a background in engineering or natural sciences. The Master of Science Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency requires a bachelor degree of any background – no specialization in engineering or natural sciences is needed here. The DBS is open to applicants with a university entrance qualification or equivalent professional qualification.
What English level is required?
Non-native English speakers need a B2-level English certificate for the DBS program. Master's programs may have additional requirements.
How much does the Diploma of Basic Studies cost?
The DBS – Site-Adapted Transformation Technologies costs €3,900 for 30 ECTS credits. DAS and Master's program fees vary; please see individual program pages.
Are the degrees internationally recognized?
Yes. All degrees are awarded by the University of Kassel, a public German university, and are internationally recognized.
